My potted dwarf magnolia (2m tall) fell and broke its pot (1m tall), can I trim the roots halfway to replant?

I am considering replanting it into a garden bed.

I think I would just plant it as it is.Then instead of soil use a potting soil mix around the roots to encourage easy growth.Be careful .I never knew they made dwarf magnolias.I thank you for the info.
Reply:If you are considering putting it in your garden why trim the roots. I would only trim the roots if they are damaged.
