What is the smell of magnolia?

a heavy , sweet smell...beautiful for outdoors on a sunny day..

or indoors..but not too many

What is the smell of magnolia?
I have a 60 foot one in my yard here in Florida..It is no where near citrus or lemon smell..if I had to compare to a known scent I would say it smells in the night blooming jasmine area..only not as strong..but you can smell it quite a disatnce away..I can smell it when it blooms from my front door..the tree is about 40 feet away
Reply:It depends on the variety.

Saucer Magnolias have a very delicate sweet fragrance. Sort of perfumey. You have to be right up on them to smell them.

Southern Magnolias have a clean lemony frangrance which can be quite strong. I can smell them all over my yard.
