Magnolia not flowering?

Why is my magnolia not flowering - its small but has been planted 3 years ago and it has never flowered - we live in the countryside of lothian scotland and it is planted in a walled south facing garden, acid soil well drained

Magnolia not flowering?
It may need more time to get used to its surroundings. The roots need room to spread out. It needs lots of direct sunlight. Well-drained soil is good. They need to be well-watered, but not water-logged. Maybe try a fertilizer but I'm not convinced about this as you say your soil is acidic.
Reply:Magnolias take a bit of time I have had one for four years and this is the first year we have flowers. Be patient it is worth the wait
Reply:Magnolias can take up to ten years to flower......have patience.
Reply:I think mine was 5 years before it flowered. It sounds like you are lucky enough to have ideal conditions but you could try putting some ericaceous compost around the base to help it (I did this but I dont have the ideal soil that you do) and cover it with a sheet on very frosty nights. The first time mine flowered it had only 2 blooms, then the next year there were 12 and now after 4 years there are loads of lovely blooms. Hopefully you will find the same in a year or 2 - good luck !
Reply:I would say replant a new one. I have had many flowers not bloom where others have. I would guess its just your plant. http://www.newprocontainers.com http://www.qualitysilks.com
