Dimensions of Japanese magnolia?

How far should it be from house to avoid damage to foundation and roof?

As you can see it depends on the actual variety. If the tree has a ten foot spread you should place it 5 feet or more from the house. If the spread is 20 ft, it should be 10ft or more from the house. As a horticulturalist and designer I often have had to talk people into keeping tree's a healthy distance from the house. It's a shame how many times you see a 20 ft tree 3 ft from the house.
