I have dappled sun in my backyard, what would grow in the shade of a fir tree best, lilac or saucer magnolia?

I'm in a sheltered yard in the US Pacific NW temperate, small 30 ft by 10 ft this would be in one back corner. Just took out the butterfly bush that is truly a weed. Need inspiration.

Rhododendrons and azaleas are made for spots like that and come in all kinds of different sizes and colors. This nursery in Oregon is a good source for both information %26amp; plants:

Non-natives like camelias and pieris would also work.
Reply:lilacs do good in the shade or sun and I think you would like them much better. The purple and the white are beautiful and they spread into a bigger bush so much quicker
Reply:Unfortunately, lilacs need full sun to grow best. I LOVE lilacs!!!! Used to grow them all the time at my old house.
