Can you start a magnolia tree from those things that fall off the tree?

If you're talking about the red berries in the pods that fall from the magnolia tree, yes. They will take a long time to bloom and most likely not come true from the parent. Best bet regarding propagation is to take a 6 inch cutting right below a leaf node and keep in shade with moist soil. They root very easily and will be exactly like the parent plant. Good luck!
