How do I prune a magnolia tree?

Southern Magnolias are evergreen and can be pruned anytime. I would cut what is close to a building, crowding another tree or hanging downward. Always cut just above anpther green leaf or branch.

Chinese Magnolias lose their leaves in the winter and bloom in late winter or early Spring(Jan-Mar in SoCal). Do the same pruning. It is best to do it after it has bloomed. Don't wait until it is thinking about blooms(before Oct or Nov).

Good luck.
